I'm really going to try to keep up with this blog and post whenever I get the urge instead of just posting for the required assignments for this course. I've tried to become a blogger a few times over the past few years, and it never really panned out because I lost interest and didn't have a whole lot to say. Based on this past week, I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of thinking and reflecting about teaching during the upcoming year and it'll be nice to have somewhere to sort it all out.
As I'm typing this entry, I'm having a conversation with a friend from high school about my student teaching placement in Detroit. In response to my idea of a semester-long current events and history research project for my kids, this is what he said:
"Its good to challenge them, but be aware u might have to slip back.... Because if they all fail, it doesn't look good. its still detroit...and alotta kids don't want to put in too much effort. Its good to be optomistic. We'll see how long that lasts. Haha lol."
What's sad is that this is not the first time I've heard this. Comments like these really make me SO MAD but inspire me at the same time. Why wouldn't I want to challenge my kids? Why wouldn't I want to give them a hard project and help them succeed? Grrrrrr....

Where do I start?
Blogging makes me feel really pressured. I feel like I'll be judged on my writing aptitude or subject decisions. I feel the need to be witty or philosophical, and I am neither of these things. Maybe I'll be better at this in the middle of the night or when I'm not surrounded by 25 other people trying to do the same thing as me. :)
